Visa Black Card – You don’t need an Amex Centurion
When the obscenely out of reach (even for some millionaires) Amex Centurion Card smirks at you, you always have another option: The Visa Black Card. At an annual fee of just $495, it’s considerably cheaper than a Centurion Card ($2500). And it’s for those people who see no point in spending over $500,000 a year on an Amex Platinum, just to qualify for a Centurion Card. (There are ongoing talks of whether or not Amex is raising its requirements from $250k to $500k. At the time of writing, no official word is out yet). Of course, the Visa Black Card does not have the same level of perks the Centurion Card carries, but you have to ask yourself how many of you would actually use the complimentary Space Adventures’ Spaceflight Club Membership that comes with it. Not I.
The Visa Black Card is for real people, who are doing well enough for themselves that they need the added spending power of a “black” credit card… without the yacht.
Spending caps are handled the same as with any other credit card. They are set on credit rating, income, and a number of other non disclosed factors that make up the arcane magic formula of “spending limit”. But in any way, it’s not a low limit. Average spending on the Visa Signature Series Card (precursor to the black card) was $27,600 in 2007, so we can expect the same, or even higher, with the Visa Black Card.
That’s higher than most platinum cards on the market.

After all, this IS a black card, and it’s not one of those little pieces of plastic that even your buddy Joe has. It’s made of a gorgeously sleek black carbon graphite, and the metallic sound it makes when you tap it on the counter… ahhh, well, you just have to hear it for yourself.

But we think the Visa Black Card has one big advantage over the Amex card. In fact, we don’t just think it – we KNOW it: Visa cards are accepted at infinitely many more outlets, restaurants, and hotels, than ANY Amex card is.
After all, what good is a Amex Centurion credit card, when “we don’t accept Amex here”…?
